2025 Plant Selection

  1. Balsam Fir is native to central and western Massachusetts. This is a great grow-your-own Christmas tree option!
  2. Sumacs are commonly misconceived as being poisonous. Poison Sumac is a species related to poison ivy, whose name stems from leaves that resemble those of sumac. Fragrant Sumac, like Staghorn, Smooth, and Winged Sumac, are not related to poison ivy and they are not poisonous.
  3. Juneberry is a naturally occurring hybrid of two serviceberry (aka shadbush) species.
  4. Ninebark is an introduced ornamental species that has spread throughout New England, though some texts consider this species native.
